London Songwriters Summer Recording Camp 2019

Following hugely successful events in 2016, 2017 and 2018 we are once again at Box Hill for an amazingly affordable five-day residential Songwriting and Studio Recording experience – and a guide to arranging, recording and mixing your own songs.

A Summer Of Songwriting Sorcery

A huge thank you to all who attended our 10th anniversary song share party in London last week – it was a superb celebration of song from our excellent writers.

May was an exciting month personally too, having met one of my all-time favourite songwriters Little Steven Van Zandt of The E Street Band, The Disciples of Soul as well as TV’s The Sopranos and Lilyhammer – he was in London for the Summer Of Sorcery Tour. Always interesting to meet your heroes and he is an enthusiastic advocate of popular music education worldwide.Little Steven and London Songwriters

Over the next few months we have our own Summer of Songwriting Sorcery to inject some magic into your writing!

London Songwriters 10th Anniversary

The 25th May marks our 10th anniversary running regular affordable half-day workshops, Evening Courses and Countryside Retreats encouraging our members’ Songcraft, Collaboration and Songshare skills! It’s hugely gratifying to see attendees regularly producing better and better quality songs and going on to schedule showcases, EP / album launches and radio / digital releases.

We will be holding a FREE Birthday Social and Songshare Session  on Sunday 26th May in Central London. This an opportunity to optionally showcase your original songs to share informally (live or MP3) in an intimate open mic format or to simply chat with your fellow writers over a drink or two and find out about our Workshops and Countryside Retreats.

There will be a Yamaha weighted keyboard for the pianists amongst you. It will be a very special afternoon!

Happy February! and wishing you a marvellous month of melodic music making! ☺ 

As well as our popular Film and TV Collaboration and Song Share sessions, January started off the year with a very enjoyable and successful 3 part Lyric Writing course – ‘such useful material covered. I’ll take these tools away and put them into practice’ said one attendee. 

February is Melody Writing month – we will be running three, weekly, interactive presentations in London on the evenings of Wednesday 13th, 20th and 27th, primarily aimed at beginner and intermediate writers.These sessions will delve deeply into essential topics, including developing your melodies using Rhythmic Motifs, Pitch, Harmony, Prosody and much more!

2018 was another busy year with regular Lyric and Melody Writing Presentations, week-long Countryside Retreats, Film & TV Writing Workshops, Song Critique sessions and our Charity Concerts for Crisis At Christmas.

Thanks to all who took part in the latter and to those who sponsored us – we raised a significant amount of money from some generous direct donations and downloads of our charity single.

Here are some upcoming events to supercharge your songwriting for 2019:

Our first event of the New Year is a Song Critique Session at the King & Queen pub in Fitzrovia on Saturday 12th January – bring your songs at any stage of development for an in-depth look at the Lyrics, Structure, Melody and Harmony and in the same room where Bob Dylan played his very first London gig!

January is lyric writing month – we will be running three, weekly, standalone, interactive presentations on a Tuesday evening, primarily aimed at beginner and intermediate writers. These will help you clarify how you can plan ideas and develop processes to perfect lyrics that work to their full potential.

The first of these sessions Lyric Writing: Generating Ideas, Structure and…The BIG Idea! is at 6pm on Tuesday January 15th at WeWork, South Bank. These sessions will delve deeply into essential topics, including Structure, Imagery, Metaphor, Rhyme, Singability, Meter and much more,

Happy Christmas from London Songwriters!

On the afternoons of the 27th and 28th December between 2pm and 5pm we will perform as a collective in Central London for the homeless charity Crisis At Christmas. This is our sixth year, and they are excited to be working with us once again.

Solo performers, singers with instrumentalists or backing tracks, are all welcome and we will concentrate on appropriately entertaining covers, as the audience will appreciate familiar songs they can potentially sing along to.

2017 was another busy year for London Songwriters and our regular members achieved success in terms of radio play, gigging, completing their own releases, being inspired to write their first songs or writing more and more accomplished ones as a result of the London Songwriters experience – check the positive testimonial comments after each event and in the group reviews.
